The Benefits of Switching to a Plant Based Diet

The Standard American Diet typically consists of animal-based proteins, but it’s actually incredibly easy to transition to a plant-based diet! Start slowly with small changes and keep it simple! Cut out one animal based food at a time…..

It’s often easy for people to transition to a plant-based diet by first replacing all milk and dairy products. Soy milk, rice milk, almond, and hemp milk are all healthy and delicious alternative to cows’ milk! In fact, ALL of these come in chocolate or vanilla! You can incorporate vegan plant-based cheese that come in all different varieties. They are soy based or nut based and there’s even plant-based yogurt made from soy, oat, or cashew milk. The next step could be to replace meats (beef, chicken, turkey, pork, veal, lamb, and fish) with plant proteins such as legumes, beans, nuts, and seeds. It's a common misconception that those who adopt a plant-based diet do not receive enough protein. However, this could not be further from the truth!

While some see a plant-based diet as being restrictive, it can actually be viewed as a simpler and healthier way of eating, consisting of:

  • Plant proteins

  • Fruits

  • Vegetables-green leafy and starchy

  • Whole grains

  • Nuts and Seeds

Switching to a plant-based diet will make you feel better overall. It will improve energy, strength, endurance, performance, and recovery. If you have questions about switching to a plant-based diet contact Lisa Arlen Certified Nutritionist of Live Your Life Nutrition.
